A three-loop radiative neutrino mass model with dark matter

We present a model that generates small neutrino masses at three-loop level due to the existence of Majorana fermionic dark matter, which is stabilized by a Z2 symmetry. The model predicts that the lightest neutrino is massless. We show a prototypical parameter choice allowed by relevant experimental data, which favors the case of normal neutrino mass spectrum and the dark matter with m \sim 50-135 GeV and a sizable Yukawa coupling. It means that new particles can be searched for in future e+e- collisions.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure

    Automatic Structural Scene Digitalization

In this paper, we present an automatic system for the analysis and labeling of structural scenes, floor plan drawings in Computer-aided Design (CAD) format. The proposed system applies a fusion strategy to detect and recognize various components of CAD floor plans, such as walls, doors, windows and other ambiguous assets. Technically, a general rule-based filter parsing method is fist adopted to extract effective information from the original floor plan. Then, an image-processing based recovery method is employed to correct information extracted in the first step. Our proposed method is fully automatic and real-time. Such analysis system provides high accuracy and is also evaluated on a public website that, on average, archives more than ten thousands effective uses per day and reaches a relatively high satisfaction rate.Comment: paper submitted to PloS On

Colloidal CdSe quantum nanowires: Synthesis, photo-induced photoluminescence enhancement and fabrication of core/shell, water-dispersible structures

Solution-liquid-solid: SLS) mechanism is applied to the growth of colloidal CdSe quantum wires. The synthetic conditions are optimized to control the morphology and optical properties of the quantum wires. The effects of the impurities of solvent TOPO during the synthesis were also explored. Photo-induced photoluminescence enhancement phenomenon is observed and studied for the CdSe nanowires. The quantum yield of the ensemble CdSe quantum wires can reach up to 10% after photo-enhanced. Type-I CdSe/CdS core/shell structures were synthesized to improve the emission efficiency of the nanowires. Polymer or silica coated CdSe nanostructures were also synthesized to achieve the water-dispersibility

Optimisation of residential battery integrated photovoltaics system: analyses and new machine learning methods

    Get PDF
Modelling and optimisation of battery integrated photovoltaics (PV) systems require a certain amount of high-quality input PV and load data. Despite the recent rollouts of smart meters, the amount of accessible proprietary load and PV data is still limited. This thesis addresses this data shortage issue by performing data analyses and proposing novel data extrapolation, interpolation, and synthesis models. First, a sensitivity analysis is conducted to investigate the impacts of applying PV and load data with various temporal resolutions in PV-battery optimisation models. The explored data granularities range from 5-second to hourly, and the analysis indicates 5-minute to be the most suitable for the proprietary data, achieving a good balance between accuracy and computational cost. A data extrapolation model is then proposed using net meter data clustering, which can extrapolate a month of 5-minute net/gross meter data to a year of data. This thesis also develops two generative adversarial networks (GANs) based models: a deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) model which can generate PV and load power from random noises; a super resolution generative adversarial network (SRGAN) model which synthetically interpolates 5-minute load and PV power data from 30-minute/hourly data. All the developed approaches have been validated using a large amount of real-time residential PV and load data and a battery size optimisation model as the end-use application of the extrapolated, interpolated, and synthetic datasets. The results indicate that these models lead to optimisation results with a satisfactory level of accuracy, and at the same time, outperform other comparative approaches. These newly proposed approaches can potentially assist researchers, end-users, installers and utilities with their battery sizing and scheduling optimisation analyses, with no/minimal requirements on the granularity and amount of the available input data

Digital economy drives tourism development—empirical evidence based on the UK

    Get PDF
The digital economy has become a driving force in global tourism development. The data from 2011 to 2019 is used to study the influence of the digital economy on tourism in the UK. It is found that the digital economy of each country (region) had a driving effect on the UK’s tourism with a marginal increasing trend. Heterogeneity tests show that the digital economy had positive effect on the tourism business and holiday market, and the increasing level of digital economy in Europe and OECD countries also contributed to the development of tourism in the UK. According to the influence mechanism, the digital economy of various countries (regions) could promote the tourism development by improving the quality of the regime, strengthening market control capability and increasing freedom of trade. Finally, relevant suggestions were put forward from the perspectives of government regulation, digital infrastructure construction, and applications of digital technology
